Just speaking my truth about the choices we have as teachers. We can give students that mess up an opportunity to 'make it right' and do our best to avoid the punishment system that is so pervasive in our society. However, the reality is that some students won't take us up on the opportunity to do something different because they aren't there yet and are used to how things have been done in the past. What IS in our control is how we communicate what we are trying to do for that student and show them we care about them. Regardless of what decision they made in the first place. That is what makes us a credible teacher. Not how cute our room is. Just sayin'.
