Every once in a while I like to Google 'how to get students to' and see what comes up.
I'm intrigued at how we get students to do anything, really.
How does one get anyone to do anything?
How do I get others to respect me?
Think about that. How does anyone get another person to respect them?
To me, it has to do with respecting students for who they are. Can we expect to be respected by our students if they don't feel like we're respecting them?
It's not easy sometimes. Most times, the students we need to show the most respect towards show us the littlest amount of respect. The irony!
I don't have any answers but I think it has a lot to do with what we are 'putting out there' at school.
Students know what teachers are getting respect from their peers.
The question is how those teachers are able to get students to perceive them as respectable.
