Teaching is difficult. There are so many variables and influences that make the job like no other. Yes, there are plenty of other difficult jobs that people have in our society that I wouldn't do (or have any urge to do). The stress that can be caused by the difficulty teaching creates literally kills us. Yes, stress kills. It takes awhile but it kills us. Look up any of the recent research on stress and what it does to our body if you want to be freaked out. The point? We need to save ourselves from all the stress. No one is going to save us. That's it. It's that simple. Don't think that there's going to be anyone or any organization that's going to magically show up at your door and take it all away. As you already know, this is utter nonsense. So, take what you need for yourself. Now. Take that walk during lunch. Meditate for five minutes before the meeting that always makes your blood boil. Do something! There are two benefits of you doing this. One is that you will be happier and healthier in the long run. The second is that you will be able to be your best self for those around you. Oh, and you will also be modeling for the young people that you serve what it looks like to take care of oneself. And we all could use more of that, couldn't we?
